Prentice Sports Therapy was founded in 2005 by owner and principal therapist Paul Prentice. Our clinic is based in Lisburn and provides Manual Therapy Services to the Northern Ireland’s sporting elite, the local community and further afield.

Paul Prentice (BSc Hons) - Principal Therapist
Paul Prentice is the owner and founder of Prentice Sports Therapy and one of Northern Ireland’s most experienced and respected Sports Therapists. With over 20 years of hands on clinical experience, Paul has built a name for himself at the top level of the industry, trusted by elite athletes, actors, and everyday clients alike for his expert care and results focused approach.
After completing his Advanced Diplomas in Sports Massage Therapy in 2003/04, Paul went on to earn a BSc (Hons) Degree and pursued further specialisation in:
- Advanced Spinal & Peripheral Joint Manipulation
- Functional Integrated Dry Needling (FIDN)
- Cupping Therapy
- Combined Sports Taping
Paul’s extensive expertise and reputation for excellence have taken him behind the scenes of professional sports and global productions. His career highlights include:

As a former Northern Ireland international footballer and black belt martial artist, Paul brings a unique understanding of the physical and mental demands placed on high performing bodies. His ability to relate to athletes on a personal level enhances his treatment philosophy, one that prioritises movement, function and sustainable recovery.
Beyond the professional sports world, Paul continues to serve a wide and loyal client base from his clinic in Lisburn, Co. Antrim, delivering expert care with precision, compassion and a results driven approach.
Paul’s commitment to raising the standard of Sports Therapy in Northern Ireland remains unwavering and under his leadership, Prentice Sports Therapy continues to grow as a centre of excellence in injury rehabilitation and performance recovery - In 2022 Paul introduced the highly acclaimed Tru-Cryo Kaasen Pro Cryotherapy technology to his clinic, to support and reduce injury recovery times for athletes, and in 2025 he has positioned the his team as the pioneers and leading N. Ireland clinic to offer The BEMER (Bio-Electro-Magnetic-Energy-Regulation) Pulsed Electro-Magnetic Field (PEMF) medical device, to support a wide range of chronic and acute ailments, such as; Diabetes, Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, Fractures and Soft Tissue injuries.
Adam Hamill – Sports Therapist (BSc Hons Sports Therapy)
Adam joined Prentice Sports Therapy in June 2024 after successfully completing his BSc (Hons) in Sports Therapy. He brings a calm, focused approach and a passion for helping clients recover, rebuild and return to full function.
Adam specialises in injury assessment and rehabilitation, delivering tailored treatment plans that support clients through every stage of recovery. He is also qualified in Functional Integrated Dry Needling (FIDN), equipping him with a comprehensive set of skills in manual therapy, muscular re education and performance recovery.
As part of his role at Prentice Sports Therapy, Adam is also involved in working with local sports teams, offering hands on support and injury management in both clinical and pitchside settings.
Respected for his professional manner, clear communication, and evidence based approach, Adam has quickly built strong relationships with clients of all ages. His dedication to ongoing development and consistently high standards make him a valuable member of our team and one to watch in the field of Sports Therapy.
FAQs
Sports Massage is a specific type of massage developed over thousands of years. It is a blend of Swedish Massage, Deep Tissue Massage, Neuro-Muscular and Trigger Point techniques; which are designed to Improve, Maintain, Prevent Injury and Aid recovery of the body’s muscular systems.
Whether you’re a professional athlete or just like to keep fit. If you like to push yourself to your physical limits through movements such as running, cycling, hiking etc or simply exert yourself through strenuous daily activities for example mothers with small children, gardening etc. then Sports Massage can help you!
Too many times people resort to taking prescribed tablets to mask out the pain caused by a muscular imbalance, but this is not getting to the root of the problem.

The simple answer is YES!.. Providing you have a room spacious enough for the massage couch to be set up and adequate room for the therapist to manoeuvre .
Also, there may be an additional charge depending where you live .
Depending on the ailment different techniques such as Deep Tissue Massage/Trigger Point Therapy may be required. Due to the fact that your muscles may already be tender and inflamed, this may cause some discomfort. However, the therapist will always consult you and work within the parameters of your individual pain threshold.
Each treatment will differ from the last depending on the ailment and how much pressure is required to benefit this. At PRENTICE SPORTS MASSAGE we use a variety of techniques in order to alleviate the problem . Such as:
- Soft Tissue Release
- Deep Tissue Massage
- Neuro-Muscular Techniques
- Trigger Point Therapy
After each session the therapist may demonstrate a number of stretching techniques for you to perform at home between sessions. These stretches can help aid the healing process. At this time you will also be given the opportunity to ask any questions that may be concerning you. However, if you have any further queries, feel free to contact Paul via email or by telephone.
Sessions will usually last approximately 45mins. This is inclusive of a short consultation, in which a brief medical history is required, detailing any Contra-Indications to treatment.
Follow up appointments may vary in duration depending on the treatment required, but on average will last between 45mins and 1 hour.
All ailments will differ in severity, depending on the Type, How it occurred and How long you have been suffering.
Although clients may be slightly tender after certain treatments (Treatment Pain), they should notice improvement within a few days, if not immediately!
Contra-Indications are conditions that may be negatively affected by Sports Massage, such as:
- Heart Condions
- Haemophilia
- High/ Low Blood Pressure
- Epilepsy
- Pregnancy (within the first 16 weeks)
- Cancer
- Diabetes
- Blood Disorders
These are just a few examples of the more commonly encountered Contra-Indications and if you suffer from any of the above please seek advice from your medical practitioner as a letter of consent may be required.
